What is a BCBA?
BCBA stands for Board Certified Behavior Analyst, a graduate-level certification in behavior analysis. It is issued and governed by the BACB (Behavior Analyst Certification Board), the organization that sets and enforces the requirements for the credential.
BCBAs are independent practitioners who deliver behavior-analytic services and oversee the work of RBTs, BCaBAs, and other related professionals on a case.

BACB requirements are updated over time. BCBA eligibility requirements (degree, coursework, supervised fieldwork, continuing education, and ongoing supervision) are revised effective January 1, 2027, and Pathways 3 and 4 are discontinued then. The BCBA exam is a computer-based, multiple-choice exam administered via Pearson VUE at authorized testing centers. Candidates must complete eligibility and application steps and receive an approved determination from the BACB before they can schedule an exam.
